Economy Basic, Light and the rest
Within Europe, the Economy fares include these bags:
- Economy Basic: 1 personal item; a carry-on bag up to 8 kg can be booked online or through the Service Center, not at the airport (short- and medium-haul).
- Economy Light: 1 personal item and 1 carry-on bag up to 8 kg; no checked bag within Europe.
- Economy Comfort, Comfort Green and Flex: 1 personal item, 1 carry-on bag up to 8 kg and 1 checked bag up to 23 kg within Europe.
Economy Basic allows one booked carry-on per route. Miles & More HON Circle and Senator members and Star Alliance Gold members bring one carry-on free on Economy Basic.
At the airport
Every bag you bring to the gate counts as carry-on, whatever your checked baggage allowance. One that breaks the rules is taken at the check-in counter or the gate and goes in the hold at your expense, for a fee that depends on the route, paid by credit card. On a full flight Lufthansa may email you first and offer to take a compliant bag at check-in for free.
Under TSA rules, passengers leaving the US take only one carry-on and one personal item through security, whatever their class.
Checked bags
Lufthansa measures the 158 cm as width + height + depth. A larger or heavier bag, or an extra piece, travels as excess baggage. Business fares within Europe include bags of up to 32 kg.
