Common questions
Do wheels and handles count in the carry-on size?
Yes, American, Delta, United, Southwest, Alaska, JetBlue, Frontier, Allegiant, Hawaiian, Sun Country and Breeze all say their carry-on limit includes the wheels and handles, so measure the bag with them. Outside the US, 8 of the 14 airlines here say their cabin bag size counts them, and Wizz Air leaves them out, though its wheels may add no more than 5 cm.
Which airlines charge for a carry-on bag?
Frontier, Allegiant, Sun Country, Breeze and Avelo charge for a carry-on bag on their lowest fare, and United's Basic Economy leaves it out on most routes. Every US airline here lets you bring one personal item free. Outside the US, Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz Air, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, KLM and Air France charge for a cabin bag on their lowest fare. Air Canada's Economy Basic and WestJet's UltraBasic leave it out on some routes, and Porter's Basic fare leaves it out.
Is a checked bag the same size limit on every airline?
No, most of the US airlines here allow 62 linear inches, but Allegiant allows 80 linear inches. For weight, Frontier allows 40 lb where the other US airlines allow 50 lb. Outside the US, Air Canada, Porter, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, KLM and Air France allow 158 cm in total, and Ryanair, Wizz Air and British Airways set each side instead.
Where we get our information from
