Where the guides disagree
Makers don’t agree, and some don’t agree with themselves. Monos’ buying guide gives its Carry-On 1 to 5 days and its Check-In Medium 1 to 2 weeks, where the product pages give 2 to 5 days and 7 to 18 days. Delsey’s guide lists a carry-on for 1 to 3 days, medium checked luggage for 4 to 7 days and large checked luggage for 8 days or more. Its chart on the same page gives a personal item or carry-on for 1 to 2 days, medium checked luggage for 3 to 5 days and large checked luggage for 6 to 10 days.
Samsonite UK’s guide says that for two weeks with laundry on the way, you may opt for a medium suitcase, and that a large one gives more convenience on extended trips.
Check the size against your airline
A carry-on has to be within your airline’s limit, wheels and handles included: see the carry-on size chart. A checked bag has a size limit too, 62 linear inches on every airline here but Allegiant: see the checked bag size chart.
Common questions
What size suitcase for 2 weeks?
Samsonite UK's guide puts two weeks at 70 to 90 liters or a large suitcase, typically 28 to 30 inches. Away lists The Large (104 L) for 2 weeks or more, and Travelpro its 29 inch Maxlite 5 (142 L) for 7 to 14 days.
Can I pack for a week in a carry-on?
Monos, Away and Travelpro each list a carry-on for up to 7 days: Monos' Carry-On Plus for 3 to 7 days, Away's Bigger Carry-On for 4 to 7 days and Travelpro's 22 inch Rollaboard for 2 to 7 days.
Bag sizes come from each maker’s own product pages, read in October 2026. Trip lengths are each maker’s own, from its product pages and guides. Checked against published data from Travelpro, Monos, Southwest Airlines, Away and American Airlines (plus 12 more).
