The personal item is checked at boarding
Frontier checks the personal item’s size as you board, and a bag over 18 x 14 x 8 inches costs an extra charge there. Frontier names purses, totes, computer bags, briefcases and kids’ backpacks as personal items. Coats, canes, crutches, portable oxygen concentrators, respiratory devices and other assistive devices are exempt from carry-on charges.

Frontier's checked bag limit is 40 lb. Its Business bundle's bags may weigh 50 lb.
Most other US airlines allow 50 pounds. On Frontier a bag of 41 to 50 pounds costs extra, and one of 51 to 99.99 pounds costs more again. Over 100 pounds it isn’t accepted. A bag of 63 to 110 linear inches pays an oversize fee; over 110 it isn’t accepted.

Board First puts you in group 1 with guaranteed overhead bin space for your bag. Without it, a paid carry-on may be checked at the gate at no extra cost when the bins are full.
When you buy sets the price
Frontier’s bag prices change with the travel dates and with when you buy. They’re lowest when you book, higher at the airport and highest at the gate. Buy a checked bag at least 60 minutes before the flight, and expect a service charge if an agent books it for you.
