Avelo writes its sizes length x height x width, and says its dimensions vary by seat and aircraft type. Sizing boxes stand at its check-in counters and gates. You have to be able to carry both bags on board yourself, unless you need help because of a disability.
Heavy and big checked bags
- Overweight: over 50 lb up to 70 lb costs an overweight fee.
- Oversize: 63 to 80 in costs an oversize fee (a bag both overweight and oversize pays both).
- Not accepted: over 70 lb or 80 in.
The other 11 US airlines on this site all take a checked bag heavier than 70 pounds, for an overweight fee, up to 99 or 100 pounds. Bought in advance, two smaller, lighter bags cost less on Avelo than one overweight or oversize bag. You can check up to ten bags, from two hours to 40 minutes before take-off.
Coats, odd shapes and wedding attire
A coat, jacket, wrap or similar outer garment can come on board on top of the two bags. Avelo may take a carry-on of unusual shape, such as a document tube, fishing rod or tennis racket, if it passes security, fits safely in an overhead bin and the carry-on fee is paid. Wedding attire can be your carry-on too, at the normal fee and size limit.
