What Size Bag

Cruise luggage rules: size and how many bags

Carnival asks you to bring 1 bag per person on a 3 to 5 day cruise and 2 on a longer one, each up to 50 pounds. Norwegian allows up to 2 pieces of 50 pounds each per person, and Disney’s terms allow no more than 2 bags.

Carnival’s limits are for each checked and each carry-on bag. Its length isn’t limited.

Keep these with you

Carnival asks you to carry your boarding documents, valuables, medications and anything that needs special handling, since checked bags reach the cabins later. A CPAP machine goes on as carry-on, and so do power banks, portable chargers and e-cigarettes.

Coolers

Large coolers aren’t allowed on Carnival. Carnival and Disney both take a small cooler of up to 12 x 12 x 12 inches as carry-on: Carnival for non-alcoholic drinks and medications, Disney for medications, baby food and dietary needs.

Flying to the port

Norwegian tells guests who fly to check their airline’s limits, and Carnival encourages contacting the airline about luggage rules and fees. Airline limits are on the checked bag size chart.

Common questions

Can I bring a rolling tote on a Carnival cruise?

No, Carnival says guests must use traditional luggage, and it bans Hulken rolling totes, wagon-style bags and similar totes.

Should I lock my cruise luggage?

No, Carnival asks for all luggage to be unlocked for security screening, and says locked or oversized bags may be delivered late.
