What Size Bag
Your answer

Alaska Airlines bag size and carry-on rules

Alaska Airlines allows one carry-on of 22 x 14 x 9 in, or 45 in added up, plus a personal item such as a purse, briefcase or laptop bag. Alaska gives no size for the personal item.

Lift it yourself

Alaska asks that you can lift your own bag into the overhead bin, and that one of your two items goes under the seat in front of you. The 22 x 14 x 9 inch limit is the same on every plane Alaska flies.

Checked bags

Alaska checked bags in North America, as of October 2026
Limit
Size and weight62 in, 50 lb
Saver and Main faresEvery checked bag costs a fee
Overweight51 to 70 lb and 71 to 100 lb each cost an overweight fee, on top of the bag fee
Oversize63 to 115 in costs an oversize fee, on top of the bag fee

Saver fares get the same carry-on and checked bag allowance as Main fares. Overweight and oversize fees add to each other, so a bag that is both pays both.

Ways to check bags free

These don’t stack: you get the one that gives the most.

Wine Flies Free

Atmos Rewards members flying from 34 airports in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and California to any Alaska city in the U.S. can check a case of wine without it counting as a bag. A case is one box of up to 12 bottles and 50 pounds, properly packed with padding. Put your Atmos Rewards number on the booking first.

Sports equipment

Alaska waives the oversize fee for archery gear, bikes, fishing gear, golf clubs, hockey and lacrosse gear, kiteboards, pole vaults, scuba gear, skis and snowboards, surf and paddle boards and windsurfing gear. Overweight fees can still apply. On Alaska’s 737 and Airbus flights a surfboard can be up to 125 inches long. Two rods, two reels and a tackle box count as one fishing piece, and kayaks don’t fly on Horizon Air or SkyWest flights.
